Putney Beach is now open! The new swim site was officially launched on 22 January by The Hon. Paul Scully MP, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, along with City of Ryde Council Mayor Trenton Brown.
The site features a netted enclosure, sandy beach accessible at low tide, outdoor showers, and wide sandstone steps with handrails.
Hundreds of residents gathered to celebrate the occasion, enjoying races, giveaways, and a floaty party, showcasing the strong community support for the new swim site.
Special congratulations go to City of Ryde’s Kylie McMahon who championed this project from its inception, and to all the Councillors, Council staff, and supporters who helped bring the vision to life.
The event also recognised the collaborative efforts of the Parramatta River Catchment Group in improving the health of the river and contributing to the creation of this important community asset. It was great to celebrate with representatives from other member agencies who could attend, including the City of Canada Bay, City of Parramatta, Hunter’s Hill Council, and Sydney Water.
This project was jointly funded through the NSW Government’s ‘Places to Swim’ program in association with the City of Ryde.
